Selling to the EU via Prague.
One customs clearance in the Czech Republic gives access to all 27 EU member states. Goods must meet EU-wide standards - the most common requirement is CE marking (electrical, machinery, medical devices) or EU food-safety certification.
For agricultural products (fish, cashew, mango, sesame) the relevant regime is the EU's General System of Preferences - most Gambian agricultural exports enter duty-free.
03
How Czech companies work.
- Formal first. The first meeting is business-only. Personal relationships develop after the contract.
- Written contracts matter. Verbal agreements carry little weight; expect detailed written proposals.
- Punctuality is non-negotiable. Arrive on time. Delay without notice is a serious signal.
- Language: business in English is standard. German is common in industry.
- Payment terms: 30-60 days is typical for established relationships; letter of credit for first transactions.
04
